Hello everyone,

I would like some help with ''how to change antifreeze'' myself.
I have read a few articles but some of them sound a bit daunting...Im a bit worried about getting air pockets in the pipes and engine,so its putting me off doing it my self,if any one can help with pictures or easy steps on how to do this is much appreciated.

thankyou

sara,

I changed antifreeze on mine two times. The job is very straightforward and simpler than on other cars. Very simple to drain the system (just radiator drain).
There is no problem with air locks on Merc. Just poor antifreeze and water and it all works fine.

As poseidon and no problem really.

When it filling just squeeze the large lower and upper pipes, that will dispel any air quite quickly

TBH, does anyone living in the South really need antifreeze anymore?

Yes, it's also a corrosion inhibitor. Aluminium alloy can corrode quite bady, so it's more important than you might think.

Sara, you should find the engine coolant drain plug up under the exhaust manifold on the r/h side of the engine slightly towards the rear of the block. The plug doesn't need to come right out as it should have an integral nozzle which you can fit a rubber hose on to, just turn the plug anti-clockwise with a spanner and the coolant will come out through the hose. When I did mine I didn't make any mess at all, not even a drip, with the hose directed into a large bowl. I did need the car on ramps or axle stands to do the job. There is also a drain tap at the left hand side bottom of the radiator on my car.
I hope this helps you locate the plug on your car although I realise yours may well be different. I always use genuine Mercedes coolant in my car. Besides being an antifreeze the corrosion inhibitors will help you cylinder head gasket to last longer.
Good luck,
Ron
