Hi everyone. Any one ever changed the atf fluid on a 1972 350SL? I'd appreciate a few hints and tips before I have a go and muck it up. KS.

Your car is very straight forward, if you want to drain the torque convertor, you will have to remove the sump, or inspection cover if fitted and rotate the engine till it is at the bottom.

The main thing is with the whole exersize is to keep it clean. clean off the gearbox with a de greaser first. You may need a new sump gaskit, not always.

Measure the amount of ATF fluid that comes out then you'll know how much to put back in.

This guy is lucky, his car comes with a dip stick.

Cheeky Malcolm;) I was thinking of changing ATF on my car, but the dipstick on the auto box is very confusing and hard to read sometimes so it may be a good fail safe to measure then you know you'll at least put enough back in.

You make it hard, I will have to measure on mine, what do you do if you have a small leak, say over many years, how much do you put back. I have not even got a dpstick for the engine oil, I hate it.
