Nothing special with your brakes, knock the pins out with a suitable punch,, retract the pistons, then fit the new pads, your warning sensor wires must be replaced if they are of the two wire type and the warning lamp is on

Brakes

Many Thanks, just opened the box of the new pads. They have the sensors included.

Are the Fronts the same as the rears?

As Ian, the rear ones may or may not have sensors, just fit any in the same posistion as they are now

I thought I would following on this thread rather than start a new one. I have a n00b brake pad question.

I drive a 53 plate C180K coupe and the brake wear indicator has come one. A friend has agreed to help me change my pads next friday and I'm just shopping for the parts.

I'm fine with the sensors but I'm having a bit of a struggle with pads.

I'm looking at buying Pagid pads through europarts which have been described as QEM in some threads, but the search based on my car is bringing up a variety of shapes and sizes and I'm unsure which to purchase.

I found two that look similar and I'm happy with the prices but the useful website has "excl sports model" in the desription. Does this mean the sports suspension which I have or some larger brake discs package that I don't.

Also I've always described by car as W203 but Eurocarparts has W203, S203 and CL203. Wikipedia has the CL203 as the sports coupe.

Can anyone help? Will any of these pad fit with no problem despite the pads looking different? Is there a part number?

With the first six VIN numbers or the next three after 203 I can look them up later in the day

Cheers Television. Looking at the VIN websites I think it's the last 6 numbers I need.

I just called Mercedes for OEM parts prices and part numbers and got the following.
Front Pads - 0034209520 £54 +vat
Rear Pads - 0034202720 £30 +vat
Sensors - 2115401717 £5 +vat

The sensors are the same component front and back and the garage told me there was two sensors in the front and one in the rear. Paste is included with the pads.

I'm still going to buy third party, probably from ECP as they're half the price so I still have my issue over which ones to get.

More info,

A google of the part numbers shows that the OEM pads are made by Textar who have an excellent page. Using 203 and the following three number from the VIN brings up

TEXTAR
Brake Pad Set, disc brake
2191901 Brake Pad Set, disc brake
Trade Numbers: 21919, 21919 153 0 4 T4203
Fitting Position: Rear Axle
Width: 63,6 mm, Height: 72,9 mm, Thickness/Strength: 15,3 mm,
Wear Warning Contact: Excl. wear warning contact, Quality: T4203,
Brake System: Teves

2314401 Brake Pad Set, disc brake
Trade Numbers: 23144, 23145, 23144 198 1 5
Fitting Position: Front Axle
Width: 131,1 mm, Height: 69,8 mm, Thickness/Strength: 19,8 mm,
Wear Warning Contact: Prepared for wear indicator, Brake System: Lucas

Warning Contact, brake pad wear
98024700 Warning Contact, brake pad wear
Trade Numbers: 96990 0247 0 1
Fitting Position: Front Axle
Number of Wear Indicators: 2 Per axle, Length: 95 mm,
Brake Type: Disc Brake

One thing does confuse me. ECP and other sites have my engine model (C180K) as "M271.946". Does that sound right?
EDIT: I'm an idiot, a search showed the M271 thing is correct.

Yeah got it all sorted in the end. I googled the parts numbers and it showed that Textar made the OEM pads and their site is excellent. Once I know what I wanted I cold shop around.

Bought some Pagid ones of ECP and fitted them yesterday. They went on fine.

For people searching this fourm in future, Mercedes told me that I'd have two sensors at the front and one at the rear when in fact I only had one the front on the drivers side. Also I still have good 3-4 mm still to use on the pads but I changed them anyway.
