For some reason im not allowed to post in the technical DIY section.

My brakes on my ML are squeeking, so i think it may be time for some new pads. I tried to change the pads on my audi to find that i needed to have it plugged into a VAGCOM unit which cost me a fortune.

Now am i allowed to change the pads on my ML55 or will somebody from my local MB garage come and shoot me than charge me for the pleasure?

Surely whipping some pads off and on shouldnt be a mega challenge.....should it?

Thanks

Gary

Fantastic! So i can do it on my drive and i dont need to plug in a MB computer to make it work again? <---- double checking.

Final note, the rear piston, is it push in or do i need to wind it in?

Thank you for your quick response. planned on doing it today, might be able to now!

The MB prices for pads is quite good,, most normal motor factors that supply the trade sell TMD friction products at trade prices

MD Newbury asked for £145 for front and rear pads, not too bad i think. Going to enquire and GSF and then see what i want to do. it is going to have to wait until after crimbo though as for some reason the previous owner decided doing the tax at the end of the year was sensible!

THank you though Television.

You might be very disappointed with the fit and performance of alternative pads for the AMG.

I would recommend you stick with the proper pads that AMG spec'd for the car.

2 years guarantee and a receipt to show/give to the next owner to prove to him/her that you have not diluted the integrity of the vehicle.

Ther is always a special AMG 'tax' levied on AMG vehicles compared to cost of normal Mercedes parts from the dealer.

Allways give the full VIN to parts man and you will get the corrects parts for the AMG.

EBC recommend green stuff as standard replacements and red stuff as an uprated replacement.

Are there any opinions on either of these? Half the price of the pads on offer from MB, but half the value?

I have used both the Red and Green for years and have always liked them,, the red ceramic will give you more bite

And they're not massively more than green but still less than MB. But from what i can tell i need to but the run out of brake pad cable seperate at £5 each.

Anywho, im putting if off til post crimbo but thank you for the comments and advice. keep EBC in mind if ever you need some bits, looks like a good site.
