Just out of curiosity - wondering how long would it take to change all four brake calipers on a CLK 350. I know the tyres would need to be taken off, the system bled, then the calipers removed, new ones fitted, the brake pads aligned, the system repressurised and the tyres refitted.

Any estimates?

Car is still with the stealer - have owned it 40 days and it has been with them for 20... got the final part in today, but they say they cant finish until tomorrow!

just wondering how involved/complex this job is.

Cheers
TC
p.s. i promise i will quit moaning once my car is fixed. thanks for listening.

OK it goes like this.

Jack car remove the 4 wheels. undo bleed valve on each calliper and pump out the fluid. Time 20 mins.

Undo the hydraulic pipe then remove the sensor where fitted. Undo the 2 bots holding the calliper to the stub axle (In this case they can be removed with the old pads as they should not be re used) and slide calliper off.

Time 35 mins

Bolt on the new callipers and fit the new pads, screw in the hydraulic pipe and plug in the sensor 20 mins per wheel = 1 hour 20 mins.

Fill tank with new fuid and bleed system Max 1 hour.

So total = 2 hours 15 min so say 2½ hours.

Interesting as the stealer told me it takes better part of 6-8 hours to do it.

They received the last caliper - which had been the cause of delay till now - at 1200 and i was told that i would receive my car only next morning!

Still driving the C class... hating it! Not meaning its a bad car - but when I see what;s waiting for me once the stealer gets its act together, i hate every moment behind the wheel.

Anyhow - Tuesday has been set as the final final date. LEts see what they do.

Malcolm, why bleed the entire system?

I know it doesn't take long to do anyway, but why not just crimp the lines off as you undo them from the caliper, and once the new caliper is on re-attach the line, undo the bleed nipple and pump the air out, while putting new fluid in the reservoir?

Just curious.

Well gents, got the car back today... looking spic/span and shiny as new!

Thanks for your patience with me. Will put up new pictures once I have them. Loads of stuff replaced - however, the stealer damaged the front rims. Repair on thursday, and then hopefully everything is hunky dory :)
