Bought new pads & discs for the front of my W166 ML350 last week so intended to change them today. WTF thought it was a good idea to put 11mm Allen bolts on the slider pins?
I have just about every odd ball socket drive hex keys ..... I had to buy a 7mm & 9mm when I had the R Class .... but no 11mm!!!!!!
Job stopped!
And where was John of JBM when I wanted him? ..... Oh Yes! He retired ..... lol

I might just get someone else to fit them for me

A 5&6mm used together will get the job done buddy ;).
(they do like throwing in some odd tool sizes sometimes)

A 10mm and a file would have got you going again , 0.020" a side and bobs your uncle.

No , he needed an 11mm spanner - so a 10mm with 1mm (0.040") removed with a file would have worked.

I needed an 11hex socket/Allen key ;-)

Been there, thought the same thing at the time and also improvised a solution.

I now have an 11mm hex key for the next time

Just had a look for you Andy but the largest in my set is a 10mm or I'd have popped round with it. I do have a 14mm for diff oil but that's it.

I suppose you've tried an 11mm bolt head with a couple of locking nuts?

Just had a look in another toolbox and, as suggested by @Snake Charmer, have found a set of imperial ones which I'd forgotten I had, including a 7/16" which should do you. They're the 3/8" drive socket type.

You know where it is should you still need it. :)
Thanks Dave :)

I was stuffed once changing the pads on a Renault 19, nothing I had fitted correctly. Eventually I looked in the cap head closely with a mirror to see a pentagon instead of a hex.

I bought a similar pentagon drive for an Astra G I had .... something on a caliper that I now forget

We had an Astra G, the discs and pads outlasted the engine. :) l would have been mortified to find a pentagonal cap head on another girlfriends car trying to earn Brownie points!

Discs & pads now changed thanks to the loan of a 7/16 hex socket drive from Dave Enty! :) :)

All these ''safety'' things are a PITA when you're trying to leave your car in neutral so you can spin the hub to clean it. I nearly slipped up when I needed to press the brake pedal to select neutral ...... the caliper was removed from the carrier!!! A G clamp saved the day!
