After much deliberation and rumination over the dilemma I finally decided I’d had enough of runflats on the BMW 4 series. The car was running on 19in Potenza tyres and the ride could only be classed as atrocious on anything other than glass smooth tarmac part of the problem no doubt being that the tyres had hardened with age since they were fitted 5 years ago.

Kwik-fit mobile fitted a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 this afternoon and the car now drives and handles much better, the difference in tyre compliance on the road is night and day and the noise levels reduced significantly, have to say that the Kwik-Fit service was second to none and a price to match seems they are really lifting their game, very impressed especially in view that he used a torque wrench to finish the job

Wot is? :geek::rolleyes:
Going to Kwik Fit?
Using a torque wrench?
Doing away with run flats?
Looking after tyres?

Not surprised, BMW make a good product (dare I say) wonder how many sales have been lost to the the fact that runflats are original spec.

Suspension on mine seems to be handling the change without problem although the load index on the Michelins is 93front/96rear to the runflats 89front/93rear which should compensate

My Father has an X1 on 18" wheels and non run flats, he ordered a spare tyre and jack pack for £80 when he ordered the car, the 19" wheel option is Run flats

My friend has an M4 on 20" with run flats (competition pack) and it is the most uncomfortable car I have EVER been in

I thought all the M4’s ran conventional tyres, perhaps there is an option to spec when new, the wife said she thought our 4 series was jiggly which I thought was being kind it was bl***y awful

They do unless they have the Competition Pack, the ride is horiffic, he hardly uses it, goes everywhere in his wifes X3

Probably good for circuit days but not much else I can’t see why BM have done this

M6 Cab - prior to that, SL63 AMG, A-M V8 Vantage, SL55, SL500 and many more
I've got an M6 competition - 20" wheels but in the boot there is a canister of foam & the inflation device, so not run flats as far as I can see (will check later tho')

I didn’t think any of the BM performance cars ran on runflats so Jon’s comment came as a surprise
