Hello world,

I have a 2005 C180 K with stainless steel type interior trim..
I dont much like it and would like to swap it for wood.

I enquired at the main agent and they are quoting £750 for the 10 pieces and roughly the same again for labour..

Can the parts be sourced cheaper ( much cheaper ) and is diy possible for and old boy with limited tech skills

thankyou

Chris

What wood type are you thinking off..I changed mine to Birds Eye Maple as it went better with the black leather..Still got the old brown colour wood trim for centre console for facelift model..Pristine condition..If interested, let me know..It is of no use to me anymore..:-D

This link should help you dismantle the centre console and gain access to the various parts

Yes and yes are the answers to your question. The swap is easy except the door trims can be fiddly. The centre console parts can be done in about 20 minutes.

We have done a few of these changes for customers and I have to say the BEM is particularly nice. My A class has had Designo wood throughout, all seating changed to full leather, linguatronic, Comand, Ipod, Cd changer, auto dimming RVM, illuminated sills (bu66er of a job that one), 17" wheels and just about every coding trick possible;)

If you get a chance, have a look at Peter's (Whitenemesis) car or Blueserenity's car they are both pristine and good examples of how the change can look.

Hi Alfie,
thanks for the post... I have seen a couple of links to instructions for fitting the pieces... but they all seem to be slightly different models to mine..
do you have any good instruction links ?? I got some trim pieces from another forum member, but it was only for the centre, not the doors, but that will do for me as I dont really notice the doors too much..

I have also left a message on your website..

thanks for that... I notice that the centre consolle shown is not the same as mine... is it pretty much the same for all ??

Chris

Yes, the difficult bits, removal of the centre vents and the gear surround are the same for pre and post facelift consoles.

Once you have got those out you'll see how the units are held in.

thanks all... I now have the four centre consolle pieces and just studying them gives a lot of clues as to how they are attached..
I will probably have a go at it before the weekend..

OK The deed is done,
I dived in and fitted the four pieces today.. For the benefit of anyone else who be thinking of doing the same, let me say I am the most useless plank on the planet when it comes to anything mechanical..

I reckon it took me an hour, but having done it once I could probably repeat the process in half the time.
the first and hardest bit was removing the air vents, not exactly difficult, but it took me a while to locate the upper clips and when it came to it, there were only two of them, not four as instructed..

Also the pieces above and below the radio screen once unscrewed still dont move much.. It takes a little nerve to pull hard when you are not sure if there are other clips and screws to be undone.. but in the end I just pulled and away it came.. having the replacement pieces in front of me was a massive help..

heres a picture of the finished job.( If I can figure out how to do pictures )

Hi Everyone,
I'm about to change the metal/wood trim in my 04 SL, I can change the centre console but any tips or hints with removing the door panels would be a great help.

Thanks in advance
