It should be on the black tin plate on the front panel. If not it should be inprinted on the bulk head. I think on the driverside if not then the passenger side. It might be covered by the soundedening but there should be a little cut out. You will see what I mean when you look.
On mine in lay-speak, and I think this is what Andy meant as well, the plate is on the flat part under the bonnet, just in front of the radiator to the right of the catch. Mine starts WDB123.... and about 7 digits after that, as I recall; hence "123 car". Other types start with a different 3-digit combo. It's pretty impressive what a dealer can do with that number in terms of matching seat fabrics etc.
