I was looking through my manual and I came accross the switch for the rear window heater (yes I already know where it is),but do these cars (230e) not have heated mirrors as standard?
I tell you if not, well just how cheap are they (Merc that is),I mean you 20k + for a car 14 years ago and you dont get that & other things like heated seats, which other makes such as Saab fit as standard.I am begining to really wonder about Merc.
Is the the aerial electric on the 230e?,for gods sake dont anyone tell me its not!!,like I say all that money for it and you dont get things like that.
If the mirrors are not heated (which I really dont think they are) can they be fitted from another model,ie from the 500 or similar, basically to have them the same size.can anyone help with this?

Regards

The aerial is an expencive thing to replace . And worth it , there is nothing worse than seeing an older mercedes and somone has just stuck in a cheap plastic replacement .

I got one of mine replaced for about £160 or somthing
like that , if you do buy a new one , keep it clean of crap and well lubed as it picks up road dirt ..will last for a long time if you do that !

As for the heated mirrors , if you have them , they will come on themselves to plumes of steam.

We have had 4 c classes . We bought the first in december 1993 , one of the first ones with nothing in it . IT had a warning triangle light and a door lock switch , the squarish ones mind , none of this round malarky and a fixed analogue car phone  ... :) They are good cars . We are running two just now ..

ohh , and yes , our present ones have it  built into the rear screen and a mercedes single slot radios.

Merc.

The heated mirrors dont have an independent switch, they are on all the time. Start your car, give it 5 minutes and feel the mirrors, they shoud be warm.

Im sure it does in mine.....give it a try anyway.

i know when our style mercs were new, everything bar the steering wheel was an optional extra....and very expensive they were to. You may find that they arent fitted to yours for some reason. I read on the net that rear headrests for my model were about £500 extra or something silly. Fortunatly the previous owner paid the price!

They do nowadays as the car market is that much fiercer. This is most noticable in the small car market. I mean, 10-15 years ago...who would think that the likes of a Ford Fiesta or similar would have PAS and Air Con thrown in? It was unheard of, but is commonplace now.

When mercedes made everything an option , the cars were more special . You knew if somone had stuff  on their car that they had spent loads on their car.

Now they come with everything . There is nothing wrong with manual windows etc , i don't see everyones obsession with electric things ..
