The No. Plate is on a green 320 01/08/1996 vintage. Looks completely genuine to me, lend me your CC Malcolm and I will start bidding ;)

also a tad suspicious that the car is in the "floor mats and flooring" listing section, and not actually under "cars for sale"!!!

I think anyone would be mad to bid for this.

Why sell a car and only take a few crappy pictures of it, and doesn't he/she think people might be interested in minor details like mileage and number of owners, FSH etc  !

Mind, maybe some naive fool will put in a bid...

Why the suspicion?
He's been totally honest - it's a 10 year old 300/280sl (note the straight 6 engine), badged and bodied to look like a current amg. It's a dogs dinner but someone will like it.
To be honest, whilst the front and back look right, they can't get the side right, still looks like a 129.

Well as for ownership, he has helpfully/foolishly kept the plates visible. It has 3 previous owners (will be 4 when it gets sold).

Oh dear that's all I'm going to say....

If you can't afford a new SL, but can afford an older one, just go for the older 129. I don't see the point in doing up the 129 to look like 2006 model, it still does look like a 129 and the Sl600 badge on the back! Oh no!!

I honestly don't see the point, the interior is still a 129. It just looks like a crossbreed...

Seen his bid list? Just the one:
Retracted: £15,000.00
Explanation:Entered wrong amount

Wrong amount indeed - someone sniffing out the reserve more like. So we can safely assume the reserve is at or below £15000. Elementary my dear Watson. ;)

The bidder looks iffy, shill bidding?

If it was shill bidding, the bid would stay, surely. The whole point of shill bidding is to drive the price up. By retracting, it's gone back to 5 grand.

bidder1 puts in £15K then retracts, bidder2 puts in £5K. Agree not shill bidding, but two accounts one to test and one to bid. Although bidder2 has withdrawn 9 bids

then it is what it looks like and looks like what it is an interesting cross breed - i am sure it would nice but just not for a MB aficionado - i bet it would fool most of us if it was sitting in Tesco's car park - except we know you dont take your nice MB in there - what i wonder is what was the motivation for doing this - i wonder what the insurance man would say as this is a serious modification - shame they did not mod a SL500.

The cost of all the parts bug me, I can see £10k on the bits, without all of the time. OK if done in 2002 when the R230 was new,its a cheap way to get a face lift, what we do not know is that if the original car was a write off, then worth doing maybe. the car could be registered as a self build.

At least i know that if my roof goes wrong, i can fit a 129 hard top:D

The kit is £2k - I know the chap that used to distribute them (he gave up as he sold 4 I think) and have seen his SL500 with one on. You'd spot it a mile off. The conversion looks all of proportion in the flesh - and to rebadge an I6 as a V12 is just shameful .

Not quite Malcolm - though at least the roof on the R129 doesn't leak into the boot ;).

Can't say I've ever had wet knees or seats in the any of the SLs I've owned - wet feet in the R107 maybe!
