does any one know of a reasonable tyre shop??
i need a pair of 225-45-17 and it would seem that everyone i speak to only needs a mask and a gun
as they are complete bandits !!!!!
i am in the north east london area

Micheldever Tyres (near Micheldever station) off the A303 Hampshire. Wholesalers and retailers, occasionally mentioned in Autocar editorials and seem to have motor sport connections. I've used them ever since finding them.

Elite are quite close and seem to be the most reasonable.
this is where i had a four wheel allignment done and they did a very good job

JR, if you fancy coming a bit further past Elite towards Basildon, there is a place called Jet Tyres in Pitsea, they are excellent, ive always got my tyres there, and they provide a good service as well.

I just thought I'd check the price for replacement tyres for my car. Looking for prices on the internet, I found a variation from about £160 to £330 for identical brands (from michelin, dunlop etc), models and sizes, in the UK without fitting. The cheapest was in the USA with $120 !

Quite some varaiation though !

Also are you after a particular brand? I recently bought myself a pair of Goodyear Eagle F1's but I noticed there was a huge difference in prices between even major brands.

The local tyre specialist I went to was quoting £60 for Kumho and £93 for the Goodyear Eagle F1 both in size 205-55x16 inc VAT and balancing.

The Kumho's although classed as a budget brand have very good reviews and I know a couple of drivers that rate them as an excellent tyre.

Hi fuzzer,

I like them alot, they've been fitted to the rear replacing Continental Super Contact. The fronts are Michelin Pilot HX. I dunno if it's my imagination or not but the car seems a little tighter, especially when negotiating bends and curves. I feel like the car can take corners at slightly more pace. Plus gotta love that tread pattern :biggrin:

Micheldever are very very cheap indeed and they will post them to you. I found Mitcham wheels in tyres very good, and as cheap as Micheldever and only in Mitcham Surrey

Hi Guys, eventually found the tyres i wanted i a little shop in epsom in surrey
i got a pair of Avon FF3 for the front of my car for £85 + vat each which was £35 cheaper than elite in rainham per tyre
they got a good rating against everything else and so far have proved to be better than i have expected
they have been tested thoroughly (145+ mph)
and corner very well
with winter around the corner the "wet" test wont be far away !!
if they go bang i'll let you all know
