There is no way on this earth I can do it myself, so although thats the cheapest its not possible.

I live in Singlewell, Kent and travel to the office in Romford, Essex and between the 2 places would like to find the cheapest Air Con re-gas service.

The cheapest I've been quoted £60.00 so far..... anyone know of cheaper by any chance please ?

Thanks..... JON

Hi Jon, if they are going to do it properly and that includes the drying out, I dont think that you will beat that price

I paid £70 but I stood over him the whole time, picked his brains so to speek he showed that there was still 250 gms approx still left in which he removed so drying not so important he replaced 800 gms approx I have a thread about my experience.

I had mine regassed by a general aircon engineer rather than an automotive one - most have got the right adapters to connect in. You could ask your local convenience store who maintains their freezers and see if they will do it. Luckily mine was done by a client friend for a few drinks tokens.....

I had my done last year for £55 IIRC at an AC specialist so your price is pretty good. If you want a comparison go ask at any of the main dealers. Generally well over £100 and the guy who did mine has a round robin where he does all the dealers...

Can you let us know how you get on? Mine will need a re-gas very soon, and I would be very interested to learn which service you use, and whether they do a good job for you.

Hi,
Thats a good price mate does he still charge 60 if he is unable to charge your system because of existing leaks in your system?
The one i used charged similar price but he said if the system proved to have leaks or defective condenser etc which he was unable to repair he would only charge half

Halfords have moved into the air-con area as it is obviously a service item for the future. They charge £44-95p and guarentee a 10% improvement or a refund.

But how long does the 10% improvement have to last for to qualify, for example, a system leaking like a sieve can be charged with gas and make more than a 10% improvement..............for a few days or hours and then what happens then?

If you just want gas putting in and no fault diagnosis, a trick I used to use was to visit a local tractor repair centre. All tractors have air con these days. I don't know if there is a cheap agricultural version of refrigerant (as there is with lubricants like agri-castrol), but they used to charge £40. We have our own gear now, so don't do that anymore, but could be worth a look if you are on a tight budget.....

We use R134a on tractors and JCB's, there is not a cheaper version of the gas other than reclaimed gas which I would not recommend. £55 + VAT is the going rate but some places still charge £70 - £90 + VAT, more if R49 is used as a drop in replacement for R12.

Just had mine done here in Spain, My air con was working but i felt it wasnt as efficient as it should be, it's never been touched in 6 years!......the local garage was happy for me to watch the job, They used a machine that automated the process after the operator dialled in various info that he read from the data plate under the bonnet....It began by totally evacuating the system and then held a vacuum for about 30'ish minutes after which it then filled the system with the correct amount of r134 and also a measured quantity of oil.
The whole process took approx 80 minutes and my air con now works as it should!
The bill was 50 euros (£34)

Not much use to those of you in the UK but worth thinking about if you have a Spanish touring holiday planned?

Had my done 2 weeks ago by Kwik Fit. Highly recommended. The machine they use is fully automated but the guy who did mine seemed to know what he was doing.

Works brilliantly now and all for £44.95. Result!

I also used Kwik Fit at the end of last summer. £40 and a good job done.

Apparantly they are still testing the service so only have the machine in a few of their depots.

If there is one near, worth a try.

Just got back from Kwik Fit, £44.95 and its working perfect well - well very cold compared to how it was.

It seems to be blowing out cold on all vents although I thought I read somewhere only the centre vents are connected to the air con system - can anyone confirm ???

Thanks..... JON

Where had the gas leaked from? Did they discuss this or just put in a fresh charge.

They said they did a test and no leaks, but not a comprehensive test !

I think its a case that the gas just evaporates over time, no leaks - I hope.
