I'm sure there must be an alternative to using a dealer .... isn't there something similar to a Merc to tell the car that you want to do the 'E'/parking brake?Just had the rear pads done on the I30, I had to have them done at the dealers because of the E brake,
Emily's Yaris has a metal tab that scrapes onto the disc to make a screeching noise when the pad wears down - she still wore the pads to virtually nothing! .... my brother's Honda did the same thing 20 or 30 years ago.chatting to the fitter I mentioned that they had just started making quite a loud grinding noise, he said "oh yeah they do that now there's a special material moulded into the friction material which is intended to alert you" , apparently this is a feature that some pads without electronic wear indicators have now. Learn something new every day...
Yes frustratingly the car did need to be told that the rear pads were being changed, I only have an I Carsoft MB2 which wouldn't do it. I have not come across the "noisy" type wear indicator before. There are a few Indy's that offered to do it but I would have had to wait a week as they were all busy.I'm sure there must be an alternative to using a dealer .... isn't there something similar to a Merc to tell the car that you want to do the 'E'/parking brake?

I believe all Mercedes have just one sensor fitted to the front and rear offside caliper. Some brake pad wear indicators are only fitted on one side, so that when the light comes on the other side has already eaten into the disc.
should
Both fronts and rear pads have been changed in the last 2 months at 33 -34k miles. As above, OEM pads and suspect the first set fitted.Depending how heavily you break will decide how much life you have left.
I had new front discs & pads fitted on my E350CDI last month at 59K miles. Checked my records & it was the first set of pads to be changed.
I always check the thickness of my pads when I change from winter to summer wheels & back again.
