check engine light on

Dealer tells to restart the engine at least 40 times to clear check engine light out of the computer. Does this sound right?

Hi

No it doesn't sound right. If the engine light is on it means there is a fault code in the engine ECU You need to Know the fault code number and text description. Post this and I will give you my opinion I will also need Model and first 6 digits of chassis. On some of the new models 3 consecutive engine starts with no faults will extinguish the light. If the dealer is saying there is no fault way doesn't he turn the light out with Star? Takes 3 Sec's if he's already checking fault memory

To reset " Check Engine Light " cant you just take

Cant you just take off a battery cable?

That's what I did.
Use to work on my GM cars and my Acura. It resets the computer.

But my Mercedes check light is still on. So off to the dealer I go.
