Hi guys,

You'll probably think me an idiot for this but...

I just recently got myself a '98 C240 and traded in my trusty '86 190E for the pleasure. Well on the old car I used check oil levels, coolant etc.

Now I was trying to open the auto gearbox dipstick, and I have inadvertantly snapped a small red tag that forms part of the cap... D'Oh! After doing this I then checked the car manual which states that the auto gearbox oil level can only be checked by a MB engineer, sheesh.
I guess what I'm asking is... Is it a major biggie that I have snapped this red tag thing ontop of the auto geaxbox dipstick?

Hmm life seemed so much simpler with the ol' 190E.

Thanks,

S.

Checking auto gearbox oil level.

Hi

Don't worry about the red tag. Just put the top back on. It will stay there by its self. You need a special dipstick to check the oil. Only if you have a oil leak will it need checking. MB reckon its there for life.
