Hello,
I have a W210 with the child seat sensor in the front seat. Depending on the weight of the person in the passenger seat and the seats position the passenger air bag switches itself off ( yellow lamp by the gear selector) and the SRS light come on the dash. This can go off at will without switching off the engine but more than often I have to move the front seat back and forth and then restart the engine. This all started after a rather large person sat in the front seat ( coincidence ?). Is this the sensor embedded in the seat that is at fault and can it be replaced.

Many Thanks.

I would check under the seat and re-connect all of the electrical connections you find. Most are towards the front, so if you slide the seat all the way back you should be able to see them.

This is just one of the many electrtical faults with this serries. your fault is brought about by communication with the telematic, navigation and telephone. MB should put it right free of charge.

Hi, Thanks for the tip. I have tried this and even tried to disconnect the sensor but the light stays on all the time then. I was wondering if the sensor be bypassed or is it an active part of the system.

Had this on a 210 a couple of weeks ago - SRS warning lamp going on and off whilst driving - fault code for passenger seat occupied/child seat stored.
Checked wiring under seat area - no problem found.
Proved the fault by plugging a new sensor in and temporarily resting it under the seat - problem solved. Sensor is like a heating pad embedded in the upholstery with a control unit attached - cost about £80.
If you unplug the sensor it will put the warning lamp on - It senses open circuit.
Sent the customer to upholsterers to strip the seat base and replace - waiting for feedback.
