'Chipping' ML 270CDi

Hi,

I was wondering whether any ML 270CDi owners had considered or even had fitted the Brabus D4 'chip'.  This chip is claimed to increase both power AND torque by 25% thus giving similar power output (205 BHP) and vastly increased torque as compared with the ML 320.
Thus this 'chip' appears to offer ML320 performance with ML 270CDi fuel economy.
What say you?

Chip costs approx £1300 + fitting (<1h).
Chip is claimed to give 205BHP @ 4200rpm and 450nM torque from 1800-2600 rpm.

If its brabus then it probably does all it says and more. Those boys are very very good at what they do.
If you do get it fitted then I think that Andy and I should do a test drive to evaluate it for you.

Hi Will,
Thanks for the info.  The chip is £350+fitting which is a 'lot' cheaper than the Brabus alternative.
There appears to be very little difference in extra 'oomph' between either chip.
Is Brabus the 'designer' label and Superchips 'Tesco'?
Also (for Andy) why is the ML270CDi rated @ 161BHP etc. and the C270CDi rated @ 170BHP?  Is the same engine fitted to both cars?

Hi Dieter,

Very good question. The first time I came across a similar thing is with the G wagons. Most of the engines fitted to them have lower compression ratio's. This was to accomadate the lower octane rating of the fuels used in poorer countries which I can only assume most were destined for. This seems the same. All the engines which were fitted to say cars going to India or North Africa were fitted with low compression engines. Petrol van engines as well were fitted with the low compression pistons as also.

I not sure why there is such a differecnce with diesel engines but there is diffinitely with the petrol ones. If I come across anything more specific I will let you know. But the MB 4 wheel drives were always lower compression. They seem to have carried on the tradition!!
