Well i've given up the boy racer (Seat Cupra) gone and bought my first Mercedes (C220 CDI Avantegarde 2004) and i,m chuffed with it. I fell a bit lucky with all spec as it was the demo car with all bells n wistles sports kit etc. I want to keep going out to drive it. Although i read some poor reviews of earlier models i love it. :D

I can understand why i park in the furthest bay from the shops and take up two spaces now, i just get nervous about the badge and keeping looking out the window to see if its still attached.

Anyone recommend some decent polish/cleaner, ive searched hi n low and theres so many, ive read that wax wizard is supposed to be good.

diamondbrite is also very good if you don't like the hard work of regular waxing. but don't pay £300 from the dealers as you can get it cheap on e-bay from around £20

i just treated my car the other month and all i need to do is wash it once a month with a special wax solution to top up the protective layer.

Welcome to the South Staffs Merc family. Glad you like your new toy. They are different from the rest aren't they.

Don't go spoiling it all by worrying about the Badge. Just take sensible precautions, particularly in Anchorside. Another tip is look for the WIDE bays in car parks. Damage from moron door zombies is far more likely than Badge Hi-Jacking.

Happy motoring.

Hi Bud
Here's some advice from an oldie (but goodie)
Avoid all these very expensive so called "treatments", they are just a rip off and do nothing more than a good quality standard wax. I've used Mer polish for years and it's as good or better than anything else on the market. £10 for 500ml, goes on a wet or dry car, it's quick and easy and after a couple of applications it gives a fantastic deep shine that survives for months.
Made in Germany too- Mercs use it themselves. What more do you want? 8)

Sorry but I have to disagree....

MER is an abrasive and contains harsh chemicals - use at your risk. MB do not recommend the use of MER

I note you suggest using "a good quality wax polish". This bit is correct to a certain extent but the more carnuba content in the wax the better it is. So ideally you need to be looking for a wax with a high Carnuba content - of which there are only really three makes, Meguires, Zymol and Wax Wizard (Swissol).

MER on the other hand is not wax based and has no Carnuba content whatsoever.

...And Jack, if you still dont believe me, why not come down and we'll polish your car together with Zymol, I promise you will see the light. ;)

Having had a closer look at the paintwork.. and as it was the demo car i bought i think its been washed by some oik every other day. as i can see very light swirls in the top. I want to look after this motor. any other car i've had has never been through a car wash ever. I know mer is light abrasive, but will Zymol help? Used in the Past Durashine (makes plastic bumpers fade but was good for quckness, but left streaks) Colour fast which is poor and Mer which is ok. Never Used Auto Glym or the High Gloss Turtle wax. Why are some waxes a premium price like Swissol? has the wax passed through the body of some Guatamalan fruit bat or something?

Its all down to the Carnuba percentage of the wax.

Pop over to Meguires, Zymol or the Swissol site to learn more about it.

All three have swirl removal polishes to use prior to waxing.

Which? did a review of car polishes last year sometime (I think around June / July time) Believe it or not, one of the best on test was Halfords Coloured wax polish. It may be worth poping down to your local library as they normally have the last three or four years issues and have a read of the article. I seem to remember that quality varied quite a bit from product to product rather than by manufacturer (so just because Halfords colour wax was good, doesn't mean that all Halfords car polishes are good) This generally applied accross the board too.

HTH,

Bill
