Hi , does anyone know can you permanently change direction of headlamps on a 2008 CL500 5.5l , I have brought it from Ireland to Spain to leave there and am struggling to find out if RHD lights can be changed to LHD , hopefully will not have to replace headlights and there is a way to do this.

Just says "bring to MB dealer" in the handbook if driving in Europe. I've tried to see if there are any settings on the dash but no luck.

Any help would be really appreciated

I will start this by saying that I have not done this, but did a lot of research as I have been planning a trip.

If your C216 has the ILS Xenon lights, then the change has to be made using Xentry/DAS which will modify the beam pattern to be flat rather than kicked upwards on the left hand side.

WIS document AH82.10-P-0001-01A has all the details.

Fantastic thank you so much. I have to get it re registered to Spanish plates and get their ITV test which is our MOT so hopefully this can be a permanent change to light settings which they accept at the test centre .

Really appreciate the help.

The Mercedes dealer in Spain changed the headlight to "tourist mode" on their computer, this element passed the ITV / MOT and only cost 64.00 but they failed the car because the rear fog light is on the wrong side , so think this will be a big job to change - anyone come across changing rear fog light in a 2008 CL 500 to opposite side before ?

You might be able to “cheat” and run a wire over to the other side - there (hopefully) should be a bulb holder on the other side you could fit the bulb into.

There isn't an LED ILS system available on the 2008 W216. The temporary change only flattens the beam pattern.

To fully fix the beam pattern, you need to fit a set of LHD headlights

I have swapped a few fog lights back as cars have been re imported. They have always had a wire run from one side to the other :)

On some cars it's possible to messs with coding as LEDs are present on both sides.

Just to let you know that the headlights were switched to tourist mode and the foglight was moved to the opposite side all
for less than €200.00 in an approved Mercedes garage. Passed the ITV test (Spanish MOT) so thanks to everyone for the help . Brought it back to the apartment and 2 Hours later someone drove into it after months of dealing with paperwork to get it all
moved from Ireland to Spain !
