I have bought a set of amg 19"wheels of a cl55 and want them to fit on my clk 430.Been told this is possible but may need shims on the back. Can anyone shed any more light on it.Thanks
Hello and welcome.
wheels have off sets, that is the distance from the face of the hub going out.
It is expressed in ET and mm so an offset of 30mm would become ET30.
The offset for the wheels you have bought will be on the inside on one of the spokes. the offset for your car will be in the handbook and on the inside of the wheels, when you have found the number, let us know and we can say what to do,if anything.
Hi Steve, you cant change this situation as the wheels are wider than the originals, the offset is normally higher when you go up a size, and you have gone to 19", on my car for instance the offset goes up about 5 with the larger wheels.
Put them on and check from lock to lock that the tyres do not foul the wheel arches. the reason for the somewhere near right offset is that it upsets the ESP
Hi Malcolm.
Still waiting for tyres to arrive for these wheels so will try what you said once they do.Hopefully i wont have to re-advertise the wheels and settle for 18" amg.
Got a feeling the CLK55 had the rear arches "rolled" to lessen the lip to get the bigger tyres to fit. Dealer parts dept should be able to confirm this.
