Cla 220d
Hi everyone, I am in need of some advice. I purchased a Mercedes Cla 220d 2016 6 months ago. I had a recent issue with the car and upon further investigation the garage has told me they think the turbo has gone and damaged the cylinder and would possibly need a new engine. The car has only done 27k miles. And has full service history. Unfortunately I only had 3 months warranty with the car. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome

Consumer rights trumps any and every warranty

Is the garage a Mercedes specialist? If not I’d get it to one and get their diagnosis

As mentioned warranties are worthless. I have to admit for this level of issue a reputable MB independent specilaist is the sensible option as suggested above.

It’s the consumer rights act that’s destroys dealers. An issue within 6 months it’s assumed the fault was present when you purchased the car, and upto seller to prove otherwise. After 6 months it’s up to you to prove the fault was present before hand.

Turbo at 27k miles is a man defect or an oil press issue. Take to dealer. Its their problem. Nothin u can really do to cause that except run it on wrong oil or out of oil. And sans turbo its still runnin dealer should check oil press , inspect turbo, anythin missing from impeller? (very little lift in shaft on good one.. And if poss get a compression test. Go from there.
Good luck.

How would a failed turbo damage a cylinder?

Intake side turbo parts such as blades/vanes can enter the engine and damage valves, pistons and cylinders.
