I have today returned from first visit to Class Cars, Wingham, near Canterbury, Kent, an independant MB Specialist and can only say how delighted I was with their service.

A friends CL55 AMG with no sound to installed radio/cd/command etc was the car in question.

A MB Dealer had indicated possible Amplifier fault and quoted £859 for replacement item, £134 labour and all plus VAT.

Steve at Class Cars located fault after hours of examination to be Linguatronic ECU and replaced free of charge with german version he had in stock until correct UK version can be sourced - cost £193.20 inclusive - quite amazing value given work involved.

This is the first time I have ever stepped outside the main dealer network with any MB's I have owned and I am absolutely delighted with the standard/quality of service received.

Needless to say, my own personal vehicle will now be serviced and looked after by Steve and his guys in preference to 'official MB dealers' and no doubt my brother will also follow. It was so obvious that Steve and Danny are experienced hands on guys and gave you a confidence which is often missing at main dealers.

I think you have highlighted nicely the reasons why so many of us enthuse over independent providers.

It is not just the high hourly rates of dealerships, combined with excessive servicing schedules for new cars, blackmail over stamping the service record or not, blackmail over warranty/mobilo life if servicing not done within the dealer network. Sure, these are all irritants, and expensive ones too.

The real clincher is the more personal service, the high levels of enthusiasm and competence which you have experienced here, and the commitment to customer satisfaction (and the inevitable repeat custom and reference sales that go with it) which attracts us so much. And as you have indicated here, not just replacing bits on a trial and error basis, funded by the unwitting punter, but a real zeal to nail the diagnosis before starting the treatment.

And it is not only good that you report a success story, but you have named the guys who did it.

I have no interests to declare in this, or any other case!

I think I am one of many that were afraid to step outside the MB Main Dealer should something go wrong.

It so obvious now that should you locate a good MB Specialist/Independant you are more likely to receive good old fashion service and with guys who know what they are doing.

Longtime since I felt confident that work was being done with me in mind and not profits of dealership to fund glass showrooms, Royal Doulton cups and saucers and Receptionists !!!

Class Cars Wingham

Update on Class cars Wingham Canterbury

Stepped outside MB servicing network for the first time ever with my 2005 E220 CDI saloon 36000 miles and totally delighted with quality and service received from Steve and his boys. The Indy route for me now.

C service, MOT, auto box fluid/filter change, fuel/air/combination filters changed, Mobil 1 oil, and auto trans electriclal connector repaired when discovered faulty during service.

Everything fully explained on handover after work/service and car even washed.

Invoice was best part of £200 cheaper than I would have paid at MB network dealers quoted prices without 'add ons' and cost of MOT!!!

If you live in East Kent you have a recommended alternative to MB delears.
