It was a sunny day so I decided to wash and polish my daily hack, a 2001 Passat est 120k and it's never been painted apart from stone chips on the bonnet. Any how I did my usual routine high pressure wash off, cover in soap using my Karcher foaming lance washing with lambs wool mitt hosing off and I decided to clay bar the paint work. Normally I would turn the cay bar in on it's self to give a clean working surface, but from the recent interest in cleaning and polishing and more the use of clay bar, I thought I would just leave it to see what it brings off. Now I wash my car weekly and clay bar and polish monthly, so it's not a build up of crud your seeing here and the purpose of this is to show what it does and no matter how much you wash it your not going to remove this and if you want a shine you've got to get through to the paint first. I finished off using Meguirs NXT polish and polished off with a microfibre cloth. Totla time 1.5 hrs.

Good stuff innit :)

I bought some of that Meguirs smooth clay a few weeks ago after seeing the results in another thread. It realy is quality stuff, that NXT wax is something else. I tried it on my Honda and it really does look like new paint !.. bit of a trial run before i do my E320...

Your arms do ache though the next day :D

Yep good stuff can't recommend it enough. . .

I used this stuff today and it works absolutely brilliantly. I have never seen my car looking so good.

I agree about your arms aching afterwards. Mine are aching like hell already, but then again, it does stop you from suffering from Dinner Lady's Arms (no offence to any Dinner Ladies out there  ) I did see that somebody took 1 hour to do it - I took more like 3, was I doing something wrong?

Why do the neighbours keep giving me funny looks - as though I'm some sort of loony - when I look after my car like this?

I'll post a photo after I've finished the rest of the car. I'm just off to sit in a dark corner and let my arms turn to jelly. Ouch.

Nice :)

I do hope you're not washing regularly with shampoo though, as the shampoo will remove the wax you put on previously.

Best to wash with just warm water and a sponge, and build up the wax monthly.

Looks good, I'm getting some. Don't you become a karate expert when your doing this kind of work. "wax on - wax off"

I hope that you have more luck than me, cant buy it in the West Country

More gleams. Just feel the paint afterwards you'll feel what it's done.

I have gone a couple of steps further and have now got a Porter cable (electric polisher).
Have not had a chance to try it on the Merc yet but had a go on my vans bonnet yesterday and the results (with the right products) are amazing, no swirls or scratches left.

Will post some pics when I have a go at the C class.

Very nice Jim, can't wait to get stuck into mine when the car is back from the dealer.
What brands do you use?
I am currently using Menzerna and Chemical Guys
Also bought one of these http://www.superspray.co.uk/ for pre soaking, excellent for the money.
