OK so being under the car while it was up on the ramp being serviced yesterday allowed me to have a better look at the brake calipers and mounting brackets and frankly they are shockingly rusted so in dire need of some TLC. Cleaned the front calipers up a bit with a wire brush when had the front wheels off last week and calipers are not so bad just surface rust and need of a tidy up mounting brackets however really need to come off and be a severe wire brushing then painting.

The rears however both calipers and brackets are covered in rust and look dreadful. Discs are fine though the fronts do have run out and brake judder was planning on removing them cleaning them and the hub mounting faces and seeing if this improves things plus cleaning and painting the "bells" to tidy things up. Bought some "Aluminium" spray paint but am now wondering should I brighten them up some more after bright Yellow would look smart and really stand out against the black/silver wheel and black paintwork of the body.

I'd probably paint them to match the fronts. Personally not so keen on yellow, but as long as all calipers are the same colour it's no biggie.

Trouble is with bright or light colours it shows up the brake dust so you would have to be enthusiastic about regularly cleaning them .

My preference..

Halfords Caliper paint is excellent and you only need a tiny pot and a 1/2" brush

Prepare the calipers well with brake cleaner and a wire brush, you will need at least 3 coats to do it properly

Oh you would love my MGF then calipers are red on that because it had brand new AP alloy racing calipers with 304mm discs up front so painted the rear calipers to match but the front subframe and the suspension arms I replaced were all painted Alfa Romeo bright yellow. When some one asked me why I said that if the MOT tested needs dark glasses on to go underneath it it's bright enough! Every part I replaced under it got painted bright yellow. A Blue MGF that I had at the same time got yellow calipers when the brakes were overhauled so there is a history of bright yellow for me my last custom Motor cycle was also painted bright yellow .

Just checking the tyre pressures on the new tyres and why oh why can they not get the pressures correct

Hmmmm Halfords is a bit too far away it's about a three day drive right up through Europe so not practical. It was Halford red caliper paint that I used of the rear ones on the MGF but that was about 8 years ago.

Red and yellow are a bit cliche now so that leaves silver or body colour....

E-Tech also do a kit, I would stay away from aerosols though.

Good vid here

No idea why I couldn’t reply earlier, it just kept saying not allowed.

My 2p is that a bold colour like yellow etc will make the car look cheap and tacky. I would say got for a nice silver, as if you were to buy a new calliper they would have a silver finish on them. This way, it’s clean and crisp.

I agree. The only other option I would consider is body colour, depending on what it is of course.

Spray paint lacquered should last a few years I only do about 5,000km a year now.

Doubt it, normal spray paint will not be as heat resistant as proper caliper paint

Unless your racing or in very mountainous terrain then brake calipers should not get hot and normal spray tin paint will cope with normal temperatures or it would not be able to cope with normal summer temps and sunshine.

Will try the aluminium silver spray paint already have and see how they look going to use some of that anyway on the back of the rear silencer as it's a but shabby and it's had a weld repair on it at some point.

Well Red is an AP racing colour not sure why the TVR got black ones the MG AP calipers both 4 pot and two pot (4 piston and 2 piston opposed not sliding) were red from the factory I bought and fitted the brand new 2 piston calipers to my MGF myself along with a pair of new 304mm discs and stainless braided hoses. The car itself is black you will have to excuse the mud on the tyres as we have no hard roadway for the last 40-50 meters to the property and with the winter weather the grass turns to mud. The plan was to get some stone put down but as am most likely selling this place in the spring as it's really too big for just me and two hounds so not sure now.

Because the factory said that is the colour they want them

As to colour well it appears that matters have made the decision for me as will be replacing the rear calipers with new ones and no doubt they will be silver so the front ones will have to be painted to match at least the front calipers and not rust pitted and covered is deep scale like the rears. Not sure as to if I will doing the job at home of getting a garage to do as yet the weather will play an important factor as really have no shelter that can get the car under to do the work.
