Cleaning up those yellowing headlights

I used the holts headlamp cleaning kit and removed the yellowing from my headlamps yesterday - pleased with the result and simple to do..

Takes years off its looks - wish I could do the same to myself

It came with the sealant so this has been done.

I did the same on an Audi Allroad I used to have. The kits really are good - scary when you're half way through and have sanded the headlight to a virtually opaque mess though

Oddly enough, 3M recommends against doing this. They suggest just re-pollishing.

Not that I'm cynical, but is that because if they are not sealed they'll be back in the same state a year later and so you'll buy another 3M kit as it did a good job of clearing them last time

I've seen a few threads on the positive results of polishing. I had great results on one of my cars, which needs doing again after 4 years.

I've not seen any mention of how the polishing has stood up after "sealing" which I assume is painting with clearcoat.

The sealer is a UV stabilising / protective coat to prevent the lens degrading in sunlight.
