Some of the clear coat on my E320 Coupe has come off. I would like to re clear coat the rear quarter. What should I use? Ideally I would prefer 1k acrylic lacquer. Is this a goer over non metallic MB paint and rubbed back old clear coat? Also does anyone know a good supplier/brand?

Cheers
Greg

If u sand the old lacquer u will have to repaint with basecoat otherwise the scratches will show thru the lacquer. Try using 2'' masking tape on the flaking lacquer edge..oh and clean the panel well down first and dry off..washing up liqiud and warm water will suffice.. then stick the tape well down..also heat the tape slightly for more grip .. now lift the tape quickly and see how much lacquer comes away..if the lacquer sticks then it should be ok as a base for ur 1k acrylic. spray light coats around the lacquer edge and dry between coats 5mins with a hairdryer or heat gun gentle heat.. about four or five coats will suffice to key and fill ur existing lacquer edge.. now spray two full coats over the whole panel ...5 mins between coats and leave to dry overnight in a warm and dry place next morning flat the heavy areas with 1200 wet and dry using the soapy lquid mix , the flat all the panel with 2000 grade and buff up with a polishing machine and liquid G3 compound .. 1k lacquer will need to be polished again about one week later and then waxed and the gloss should hold up good.
