My 2010 E350 CDi sport is making a clicking sound from rear near side wheel. It does it when cold, and seems to disappear or reduce after driving a couple of miles. The clicking seems to be linked to wheel speed and sounds as though there’s something loose - but why would it disappear when warmed up?
Is this how a dodgy bearing might act?
Any comments would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

I was fairly sure that it was coming from the rear near side, but to be certain I drove up and down the road with my wife standing on the pavement listening. Also, when I drive with the windows open on a road with walls on both sides it’s evident that’s where it’s coming from. Thanks.

Not drilled - solid. Yes, the brakes are in good condition. A few years ago my garage had to replace the parking brake mechanism in the rear wheels because one had seized, and all has been well since then. Thanks for your response.

Have you got a stone trapped somewhere?
Between the disc and cover perhaps?
They can move about and go quiet on you until a bump rattles them free again

Thanks s5tuarf. its worth checking out, but why would the clicking stop every time after driving for a couple of miles? I can’t help wondering if it’s wheel bearing? What do you think (or anyone think). Many thanks.

Have you changed the wheels around or new wheels? It could be a wheel bolt is too long and just touching handbrake retaining spring.

Thanks Star. There has been no change to the wheels or nuts. Would a wheel bearing ‘click’ if it was on its way out, or would it just rumble and grind?

Thanks again Star. I’ll have it looked at to check the handbrake spring.

Hi there, i literally just resolved the same sound on my car. I thought it was the steering rack but turned out to be the lower control arm. Get your suspension checked. Screenshot_20210725-210430_WhatsApp.jpg

Bit tongue-in-cheek but have you checked that there is nothing stuck in your tyre tread - stone, screw etc.
