Hi can anyone advise me of what is normal for climate control dripping.

Car is Mercedes CLK 430 V8 it has Climate Control BUT there seems to be an excessive amount of water dripping from the underside, just behind the transmission.

Does anyone know what would be classed as normal !

Should I panic just yet :-|

I have an older car that does the same. On mine, after a panic it turned out to be the condeser releasing the water it condenced!

However Im no mechanic and could be totaly wrong......but might not be. See what else gets posted. Might be a water dripping guru

You will see more dripping when there is a high level of humidity coupled with higher temperatures... This is quite normal, part of the function of climate control/Air con is it removes the moisture from the cabin (hence you don't get steamed up windows) when the humidity is high it has a lot of moisture to get rid of !!

It's just doing its job - the only place the water can come from is the atmosphere. Not sure how Merc CC works but it might be more noticeable if you have the CC set on a very low temp. On the other hand it might work by cooling to max anyway, then adding warm air to bring the temp back up - not sure.

In Florida (very high humidity) recently leaving the engine running for a few mins always produced an impressive puddle under the car.

Run the car for a few miles from cold without your climate control on. have the fan on but use it in economy mode or whichever mode knocks off the compressor/condensor. then leave it a while and see if the water drips. if it does, it is something that is not connected with your aircon device. if no drips do the following.

do same journey later with it on. you should then see drips. this is normal unless it floods out.

you will need to interior fan on 2 or 3 to get it pumping some air in and the heater turned down just to get it working at its most effective to see what happens on both.

Try it and see.
