Would it be possible to upgrade the standard Thermatic clmate control to the Thermotronic?
Would this simply be a head unit swap? Would it result in better control? What experiences have members had with the two types? i.e. Is Thermotronic actually better?

This is an upgrade that I'm planning to start offering.

The luxury climate control unit on a facelifted W203 (like your car) is a straight swap and will give you temperature control rather than simple A/c. It looks a lot better and maintains the desired temperature for you. To effect the swap you need to swap the control unit over and have the vents normalised (requires Star coding) the only thing you wont get is the dual zone control as this requires a valve to be fitted in the duct work.

A worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

Thanks Alfie. I have dual zone control already with the Thermatic, is this different from the control offered by the Thermotronic then?

Have you a picture of the existing unit? If you put your VIN into the Russian website what option codes do you have? You have a PM.

Thanks for the PM. I think I will need some justification for the upgrade before the "accountant" (wife  ) will sanction the spend.
I have input my VIN and the codes come back as
580air conditioner/Tempmatic (с 01.11.1982)

You have a picture of my unit on your website..W203 Facelift Installation.

Intrestingly some of the other codes/options returned by the Russian site seem at odds with what I actually have. I'l check against the printout MB Direct gave me when I can find it

Thanks Alfie. Yes, sorry I meant my type of unit :) :)

As to the second part of my original question, does the upgraded unit give better control? The reason I'm looking into this is that I get tremendous hysteresis with current unit.

The climate control unit gives proper temperature control as opposed to comfort cooling.

Sun Sensor?

Does anyone know if the sun sensor mentioned as part of the aircon upgrade is the same as the ambient light sensor that controls the instrumentation and COMAND illumination levels?
