I have a 99 CLK 230 K and the outer edge of the alloy wheels corrode very quickly. It seems someone has removed the laquer from the non painted area. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix. I had thought of polishing them and spraying with lacqer but would welcome some advice

If you have had your tyres changed (damage from tyre removal tools), or kerbed your wheels then the rim may be damaged. Together with salt from winter roads, the alloys will then corode quickly, with the paint flaking and bubbling up.

There are some mobile outfits who will come to your house or workplace and who can repair small patches of damage by cleaning the corrosion, applying new paint and laquer and blending it in.

Otherwise, you can ask to get your whole wheel redone, in which case it will be removed and will take two or three days.

If you have the standard silver paint finish, this will give the best results.

If you have the laquered polished metel finish, then it will require turning on a lathe and a fine layer of metal will be removed. The resulting finish will not be exactly the same as the original, so if you go this route, it's probably best to have all four wheels done.

Just look on the internet, there are many companies offering these services. The reults from a complete silver paint respray were excellent, but this particular company was not in the UK.
