had an annoying squeeking noise coming from the rear off side wheel on my w208 clk for a week or so then noticed while in drive with foot on the break a tick tick ticking noise anyway was on my way home just after this along the m6 toll when it felt like something collapsed and a bad grinding noise but still moving pulled over and checked the tyres but all ok tried to pull forward which it did but made grinding noise its now at a specialist the aa suspect drive shaft bearing as wheel turns with very slight resistants when jacked up in neutral and slight grinding noise any one any ideas has this happened to anyone before begining to think merc build quality is not what its supposed to be

Just a long shot but it might be worth checking inside the parking brake drum on that wheel to see if anything has come adrift. I had a brake shoe spring break once. I didn't have the same noises as you report but I can imagine circumstances where it would give the same symptoms.

update garage has found nothing wrong with the rear but have reported the following
wheel bearing has collapsed causing the hub to weld together with the stub axle think it was 350 for hub , nut, bearing, stub axle plus 60 labour not a bad price think the parts are refurbs from germany

I've had to spend nearly £2000 on my 6 year old CLK 200 to replace both rear drive shafts because the ABS rings failed.
