My CLK is booked in to the "stealers" for an A service at 40000 miles.
30% wear was reported at the last service at 30000 miles.
In case they say the pads need changing, how difficult a job is it?
I have previously changed pads on other cars and I am quite happy changing plugs etc to save the "extortionate" prices charged by the stealers.
Many Thanks
Dave

You just jack the car, take off the wheel, knock out 2 pins or undo 2 x 7mm pins, slide out the old pads, clean the grooves so that the pads are a nice slide fit, take the top off the brake filler, lever back the pistons making sure the the fluid does not spill out or the filler, grease the backs and edges of the new pads with the special grease and slide them in, re fit the pins.

Thats it, if you fancy doing it you can always ring me if you get stuck.

Sometimes if the pads don't go in easily, you can wire brush the paint off them and it makes it a bit easier :)

As above, save you pennies & do it yourself. Only the SBC cars are a bit involved, which you havn't got so don't worry.
PS. don't forget to make sure you reservoir doesn't overflow when you push the pistons back.

Just noticed I've repeated what you've already said. As for "reservoir", I spelt it wrong & was corrected by the missus.

How do you ensure that ?

Take off the lid over the top of the master cylinder, the level of the brake fuid normally drops as the pads wear,if this tank has not been topped up,it should be OK. there is a level line on the tank, as you push back the pistons in the calliper it pushes the fluid back into the tank, this is where you have to watch the level and make sure that it does not overflow... if it looks as though it could, take some out.

With older car for some time now it has been said that it is better to undo the bleed nipple, rather than force old fluid back up into the expensive ABS pump.

Clk Brake Pads

Thanks Malcolm and all others for the advice and "postings" on this superb forum!!!
Having read previous postings regarding genuine versus aftermarket spares I will use the "real mcoy" and let you know when the job is done.
Many Thanks.

You do not need MB pads, since the block exemption we now know that pads by TMD (mintex) and those made by Bendix are OE to our cars,if you have a local Parts cCo near you, they will have them for under half the MB price.

Hi

Do parts co have an online facility ?

No,nothing on line, they are trade suppliers, but they do deliver to all gareges etc on a daily basis, there are other firms with simalar names that supply the motor trade. Look in Yellow pages.

W208 Clk Brake Pads

Malcolm and others.
Following your advice successfully changed the front pads today on my CLK.
The only difference being I had to remove the caliper after undoing the two "star" type bolts to gain access to the pads.
I reused the push in type brake wear switches.
I hope you had an equally successful day at MB world.

Hello everyone!

I want to change the rear pads on my W208 430. The Benz dealer wants £85 to do this. It was 96 when I last did this job on VW Golf. Are there any tricks with changing the rears on the CLK. I am thinking about the park brake and how to deal with that?

Is it an easy job?

Thanks as always guys.

I replaced the rear pads the other day, very straight forward. I did however have to release the caliper in order to push the piston back so that the new pads would fit.

Saved my self £50 on the dealer, thanks for the advice.
