Hi all, my 1999 230K CLK is suddenly displaying various problems after 3 years of faultless ownership, firstly i have the BAS and ABS warning lamps coming on occasionally, intermittently along with the "visit workshop" on the computer screen, the cars brakes work normally and well even the ABS which i tested by purposly skidding on quiet back road,i can feel the brake pedal pulsate,so im puzzled? Secondly when i attempt to accelerate the car loses power and struggles yet runs smooothly at normal low speeds and at idle...fuel starvation??? filter..pump???or something more ££££ ? yikes! Thirdly and lastly today upon starting up,as i turn the key the starter motor engaged and kept turning the engine ,even though i had released the key and the engine wouldnt start...left it a few moments and all is fine, started and drove normally? any help with any or all of my probs would be most welcome, thanks in advance ,Mal.

if it was me i would phone up my mobile electrical mechanic.to put his computer on it .i feel these problems are all related, and to treat any one without doing a system analysis would be a waste of time and £££

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
As it is only the BAS and ESP it could be just the brake light switch, but not sure if this affects the CLK but I will look it up later in the day

Hi,
"as i turn the key the starter motor engaged and kept turning the engine ,even though i had released the key".

This is normal once put in the start position, it will crank for a pre-determined time, my C43 does this too.
At least its on fault you hav,nt got anymore.
As its been said i think you will need to get it put on a diagnostic computer.
You could try disconnecting the battery but make sure you have the stereo code, you will need to reset the windows and turn the steering from lock to lock several times to extinguish the ESP light.

No worries, that is completely normal. You have an automated starting system. Turn the key and immediately release it, that starts the start sequence, when the car fires up the starter will disengage. If the car fails to start the sequence will shut down after a predetermined time delay.

Enjoy your 1999 CLK 230K, I have :)
