Hi
Today while driving (admittedly a bit hard) suddenly there was a loss of power from the engine. It felt like there was a long lasting power lag. When I depressed the accelerator the engine would gradually increase in speed. The car is automatic and would not change down at speed but would change down when I had to stop and move off. At first it felt like the kompressor belt had broken, I stopped switched off the engine. The kompressor belt was intact, after starting up again all the cars performance was back as if nothing had happened.

Can any one please tell me what and why this happened.

was the car stuttering when you tried to rev it up .... as if its choked ?!
I had kinda same problem with my CLK loosing power all of a sudden on motor way. and if i continue to rev it then it use to shake , however if theni stopped it and turned it off and back on again, it worked fine.
i was told its the catalytic converter. so i changed it. but the problem still continued. i read it many places and even happened to my friend's car that this was caused due to MASS AIR FLOW METER.... so i changed my mass air flow meter. car was very responsive again...like new car... however stuttering at very high revs continued. at the end it turned out that it was a small pipe (vaccum pipe) running from top of engine to gear box that was crack. so after teh garage fixed it. its working fine now.

check this first post at that web forum(link below) .... people solved that revving problem even by cleaning mass air meter....and as such when i took out the mass sir flow meter in my car it was covered with oil which can cause the sensor there to stop working fine as it cant detect air effectively!! just a thought!!

Thanks Balal, there is no stuttering just a flat spot at 2000 revs. Speed increases very slowly after that.
Will have it checked out Monday.

Hi Balal,
I fitted a new air flow meter but had no luck the car is still stuttering at very high revs. Do you know how I would be able to identify
the pipe and the location of the pipe that was cracked on your car.
