Hi, I just bout a clk 270cdi auto 2003 model, I drove it about 180 miles and must say the drive is superb! I started driving it today in traffic and the car just cut out and wouldn't start again. No malfunctions are showing and was driving perfectly before that. When you insert the key and try to start it, it ticks over as normal but doesn't fire up.

Has anyone had the same issue?

Thank you,

How much fuel is in the tank?

If it has 1/4 or less, it may have simply sucked up on fresh air and run out. There are a few threads about this issue, if that is the case and putting some diesel in should let it start after a fair bit of cranking.

How I understand it is that the excess fuel from the fuel rail is returned to one side of the saddle fuel tank, which straddles the propshaft tunnel. The fuel pick up to the pump is on the other side saddle tank.

When at idle with 1/4 of a tank, or less, there is no fuel flowing from one side to the other, so the car effectively runs out of fuel. There is supposed to be a venturi effect to flow the fuel over, but if there is an internal leak inside the tank pipework, or the fuel pump is lazy, this doesn't happen.

You could try a new fuel pump, or just make sure that you never get as low as 1/4 of a tank of fuel.
