Hi all

I want to buy a 1998 CLK 320 Sport auto with 66000 miles. Is there anything inparticular to look for other than the obvious ie crash damage etc.

I don't know anything about these CLK's so any advice would be appreciated

I had an '02 CLK320 Elegance for 3 years, which was rock solid. I'm struggling to think of anything that ever went wrong with it, even trivial things. Yours is a little older; I don't know if there were issues then.

Ensure that you see the full MBFSH, and note whether the services were done on time/mileage. Since it's dynamic, MB note on the service card how many miles "out" the service was from when the car said it needed a service.

I had a loan of a CLK320 in 99 and it went like a dinger. Its a little light at 140mph, (never driven that fast since) which I only drove for a minute.

It has the same engine as my present car, and a relative of mine has a CLK320 since 2000 without any problems

I have a '99 CLK320 auto cabriolet. Never had any issues with it at all, based on this and the other posts I guess there are no particular faults.

Apaarently the 3200cc V6 and 5 speed automatic box is the way to go with the CLK. I have not driven any other CLK but i have no complaints about mine.

Use google to search for CLK 320 and you may find other info.

Buying 1998 Sport

TO MDADHAMS
I've a 1999 320 V6 CLK SPORT
The ins and outs as I see them are

The CLK's are a cross between E class styling and c class underpinnings.
The problems are listed in Parker's guide but don't mention the renound faulty fuel senders and front ball joints.
Your sport -despite the title and fake carbon fibre- is the base model - 2yrs later the 5 speed trip tronic gear box came out and in 1999 air con was standard...my advice would be to shop arround and find a 4L V8 fully loaded..the performance hike, sound of the v8 and the better gear box make a more promising drive the dog leg in the older clk gear box becomes frustrating to get the best from the engine....but if the CLK is cheap £9K it sounds promising with after market supercharger and suspension mods for £3K you will get AMG style performance.
NB make sure the 50K service has been done and the 12 spark plugs replaced....body work g'tee runs out at 6 years..front wings are not that expensive but rear pannels do cost so do check for rust.....
most have trackers fitted and most companies will recactivate them for arround £30-40 most companies won't insure without one
convertibles hold their value better than coupes
good luck
