Hi all,

Recently purchased a 2004 CLK 320 Avantgarde Cabrio.

Fully running and pretty much ok with a few issues which I plan to address over the coming weeks....

Issue I would like help with is the passenger headlamp, all working apart from dip (xenon) bulb.

Faults I've found are:

Dipped bulb not working - swapped bulbs and both work on right headlamp

Passenger side headlamp internal chassis/bulb mount wobbly and loose - broken or possibly level sensor not working:

Previously had a subaru which are prone to ballast unit failing so am assuming similar problem and that I have a non-working ballast unit??

Thoughts are new headlamp unit, new ballast or level sensor??

I have SDS but very new to it and would welcome any advice or suggestions

My guess would be the ballast failed.

That was my 1st thought having had similar experience with the Subaru few years ago.

Ordered one last night and will look at the headlamp chassis/internals when its removed.

I had a ballast fail on my Renault Laguna.
Took the car to Renault, they quoted me £288 + fitting £295  This was 2006.
I went to a breaker and got a secondhand unit for £88 and fitted it myself. Fitting charge....free :D

Managed to grab some time this afternoon and got headlamp out for a look

Loose/wobbly issue was the internals/bulb chassis had come uncoupled from the ball joint on the level motor. Bit of faffing and back on.

New ballast unit fitted..... Voila..... 2 working headlights :)

Going to sit and have a beer and feel like a proud mechanic
