Hi

I am new to this forum and new owner of Mercedes CLK 320 - 1999 ( S Reg). I got this car as a gift but it has few problems with it and i don't know how to resolve them so please help me out as much as possible on these.

1). car misfires when i press the accelerator, car starts fine and idles ok, just when i press on the accelerator it misfires and starts shaking, then revs go up slowly.

Engine Fan light comes on, also there is some oil in the water bottle, I thought it might be the head gasket but i kept the engine running for approx 20 minutes, engine did not heat up, hot air was comming out of heater, no white smoke from the exhaust.

Perhaps some one here had the same problems, so i would be very grateful if you can advise what steps i should take to rectify the problems, I love the looks of the car, i just hope it can be repaired at decent price.

Thank you

err - Is it an auto?
There are issues with some of the radiators where the gearbox oil cooler can leak into the cooling system. This can kill the gearbox so don't drive it. As regards the misfire - you really need to do a full diagnostic on the engine. It could be as simple as a faulty sensor, or, given the oil concerns, more serious.
I'd strongly recommend spending £100 on having a local specialist give it the once over.

Thank you for your reply, i just checked the oil cap and there is a bit of milky residue there, may a head gasket problem?

I will get it checked by Mercedes dealers, any idea if they do mobile service as i really don't want to take the car there, closest one is about 10 miles from my house.

Thank you

Small milky residue may be ok - just a bit of condensation. My E240 (same engine really) always had a bit on the cap but was in perfect health. What's the dipstic like? To be fair, I don't think I've heard of a head gasket going on a V6. Must happen but it's very rare.
DO NOT GO TO A DEALER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find a decent local indie. The dealer will charge you a fortune (if you get out with a bill less than £500 just to look at it I'll be very impressed) for someone who probably hasn't ever worked on a 1998 model to 'learn' on it. The indie will be working on these all day so is far more likely to know straight off. Even my car goes to an indie and that's only just turned 2. It just makes more sense. Post your location and someone will recommend one.
On the home service - some do, some don't. Ring them and talk it over. They may be willing to pop over and take a look.

Sounds like you need a new MAF sensor. Available new on ebay for around £50. Dealers will charge £250 just for the part!

The oil in the water thing needs to be checked by a specialist as could be a number of things.

Thank you guys, i will take it to local specialist, I live in Batley (West Yorkshire) near Leeds, if you know of any merc specialist then please let me know.

I left the car running yesterday again for 30 minutes, there was very little milky residue and car didn't use any water or heated up, so it might be a Air flow meter.

But i need to get it checked out properly, so if you know any mechanic near my place then please let me know.

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Thanks Guys, I replaced the Mass Airflow Meter and engine misfire problem has been resolved.

ABS/BAS/ESP light is still on though, i have replaced the Brake Padel switch, but there is a ticking noise comming from the connector next to abs unit in the engine bay.

Any ideas??

Cheers for help, you have saved me lot of money.

The ticking noise sounds like it might be a valve called a PCV. Look at this thread on another MB Forum, it might shed some light on it.

My W202 has one and it can be heard ticking occasionally.
