I have a CLK 320 Mercedes Yr 2000 Model, with an ignition problem - ie the key goes in the ignition but will not turn, consequently I'm stranded!! The remote key does work the locks so can gain entry etc, but car is immobilsed at this time!!
Can anyone give me advice!!

1)Make sure there is plenty of power in the battery.
2) Leave the key in the ignition for a while (a few hours) as it uses induction to charge a small internal battery.
3) Try another key (if you have one).
4) If all else fails it will need a part. It may be the key but the lock units are known to fail too.

As black above, or maybe gear shift module problem

I am not sure if the Brake light switch on the 208 can do this, but it can on other cars.

I will look it up

I have the same car, same year. Same thing happened to me & it was the key which had to be replaced, cost about £120.

I too have heard of this one, maybe it was your car, this is very easy if you have the two keys as supplied

CLK 230 with similar Fault

Hi there

I have a similar fault - my key opens and locks all the doors and works the alarm, but will not work in the ignition.
I have tried the "Spare" Key and that works in the ignition but does not operate any of the doors or the alarm.

Am very confused - it's a 2000 CLK 230 Conv. mileage is 36,000

Cash flow for me is not good at the moment (I have a feeling I'll have to stop buying handbags and shoes for a few years if I have to go the MB dealer)
Any help would be really appreciated. I'm really c**p with cars just like driving them!

Your first key has been dropped and the coil has come off (see DIY)
the second key need to be sync with the car.

Another key problem, on my W209. Despite putting it in park and depressing the brake pedal my key is very difficult to remove sometimes. I have to waggle it and use brute force!:shock: I can see something breaking soon!

It was in the stealers last week and they said they had fixed the problem. Yeah, right!

Any ideas guys? I shall be phoning the stealers on Monday. I think I need a new key! You know, one of the nice chrome ones........ :D

clk key fault

hi

when you insert the key in the ignition can you hear the steering lock disengage? When the key is inserted the first check is with ESL (electric steering lock) ESL also checks the key and sends signal back to EIS to say OK and allows key to turn. das 3 keys as fitted to this model syncronize automaticly when inserted to EIS, a spare key realy helps diagnosis and with this kind of system I dont go on holiday without a spare key.

Thank you Television

I have changed the batteries in both keys - now the spare one works fine, (thank God) however the main key is still the same, works doors and alarm but still won't turn in ignition.

How do I put put the the coil back on? (DIY)
