when i switch to cd, it lists cd autochanger as something like "not present", as if it isn't connected (a different message exists for when the cartridge isnt inserted). an autoelectrician has apparently changed all the wires but still nothing. broken autochanger?

your post is still a little vague, however it is probably the CD changer that needs looking at. They are quite easy to repair and often dont need new parts. Get a decent auto electrician to have a look.

If this car is one with a fibre optic loop, and the audio unit is displaying "NO CHANGER" after you've fitted it, you'll probably require a trip to your friendly Merc Dealer to have your car coded so it knows the CD Changer has been fitted.

208374.

it came fitted but in my ownership (about 2 minutes) has never worked. i took it to the dealer (non-mercedes) and their autoelectrician was unable to solve the problem.

OK Only one simple check is to unplug the CD, turn the radio set to CD on and plug in CD in again.

Another only other way is by measuring voltages in and out,but you need to know what you are doing.

Third way is to plug into HHT and code it,only be done by a dealer.

Sorry not an easy one. Malcolm
