You are definitely not the only one! I have the same annoying rattle, but unlike you , I am not prepared to waste good money on shoddy diagnostics by official franchised dealers. How old is your model?
I would suggest you complain to Mercedes Benz UK.
On the subject of MB, I note that from the "Top Gear" program on BBC2 last night, they came out pretty bad on service. Well I also think they are extremely poor in after sales service and their network of dealers are a disgrace! Anyway, that's the experience I have had the misfortune to endure to date.

Hi have got your email thanks, have you got the same problem?

The car went back today for the fourth time, I have asked for my money back, This is there last chance, MB and there standards of work or ridicules I left the car this morning and when I went past tonight it was still in the some place I called in and asked why it had not moved, they said that they had not had the time today to look at it The car was booked in last week.
When it was booked in they insist that it is in for two days at a time.

Has any one got there money back from MB The car is a clk320 abs w209 the new shape.

Hi Guys

you all sound very upset, understandibly so. If its the same noise that I think you are talking about there is a fix. The noise is quite a solid knock/rattle from just behind the rear head restraint.

The fix is a modified catch which holds down the soft top cover, MB Technical are aware of this problem if your dealer cannot fix get them to ring Technical.

It can be quite hard to locate this problem as it doesn't do it all the Time and even when it is donig it it's almost impossible to locate.

As for the standards of work comment, all the Tec's I know try there best to solve whatever the problem is, but if it isn't broken at the time we have the car then we cannot fix it, and even if the fault is present there isn't always a fix, there is a product problem at the moment and this is being addressed but please don't blame the dealers as the are often just the messenger (apart from the dealers that are bad and some customers are bad aswell)

Hi just like to say thanks to piestore for his reply, from the tone of your reply you must work for MB. Is it know fact in the dealers ships that MB have a software problem, and if so can I get old of any information to use agents the dealer ship and MB were I bought car .
MB should not let the cars out of the factory under developed , or do they work on the idea that the end user is the test bed.

Thanks piestore for your valued input regarding irritating noise!
Regarding your comments on the technicians and the franchised dealers. Surely it is their paid job to diagnose problems, and if such a problem as this arises then the dealer should contact MB direct for feedback or some concession should be given to the dealer for the length of time it takes, and most importantly the customer should not in any way suffer financial hardship as a result. After all MB manufactured the car under the premise that these cars are the best in the world?
As you are in no doubt as to where I am coming from.
I have recently sent a letter of complaint to the MD at MB regarding my problem and, two weeks on, have received a letter outlining MB's "Customer Charter" which basically means they are being inundated with problems and have now resorted to sending a standard reply letter accompanied by a pathetic charter. Well I am totally dismayed with MB, even though I love their cars, they have absolutely no idea when it comes to their customers.
Does anyone know what one is supposed to do when all avenues have been explored?

noise

Hi moveitall

I don't quite understand how a noise causes financial hardship. MB cars are at the top end of the market but if you consider the cost now to a few years ago its not so relivant. In 1992 124 coupe would cost 50K and a cab would be more.

You are now buying a far superior car for less money

I know that new models have teething problems and if you buy the first of any model these days expect to have small problems

As regardes the Tecs if the rocket men it stutgart carn't sort it how do you expect us to sort it
