CLK 320 Cabrio 1999.

This problem occured when my girlfriend opened the boot whilst the roof was in the middle of being closing. (don't try this at home!!!). The roof operation promptly stopped whilst I screamed "NOOOOOoooo!" Ever since then:

1. Can not unlock/open the boot when roof is up. (no problem when roof is down).
2. When the roof is up, the roof indicator light constantly flashes red even though the roof is definetly closed.

I took car to dealership for a service and highlighted this problem to them. They said their diagnosis pointed to the requirement for a new lock..... AT EUR500!!!!

Can this be for real?

I have a quote from my local MB Garage in France unfortunatly the component names are in French with Google translation in brackets

This is how it appears:

L. Gr. Op. Li. Tps
5 -2 SERRURE DE CAPOTE (LOCK OF HOOD)
10 -2 COMMANDE SERRURE CAPOTE (ORDER LOCK HOODS )

Now that you are single again, heve you tried a re set by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. most of the cars will re set by doing this.

Thanks for the advice, it does seem quite elelmentary... I mean is it too much to assume that the MB stealer would'nt have performed a reset anyway?

Will give it a try and let you know

Is there any chance of causing any unrelated knock-on damage by shorting out something else using this method?

Your car is quite safe to do this on,you will only have to resync the windows and ESP

Thanks, I did the reset.... but this did not solve the problem. Now I have another problem. I had to do it with the roof down in order to open my boot and to get to the battery. This meant that the windows were down. Now how do I resync the windows? as they will not go back up again???? And the ESP?

I am sure this is in the manual but its in German....

Start the car and by turning the steering from lock to lock will take away the ESP lamp.

have the key turned to key2 and hold the window switches up after they have closed for 10 sec (roof up) If the windows do not know where the roof is they may not set.

I can hear that they make that little noise that they do when they think they are up, but are actually down

Is your car a 208 or 209.

reading the roof settings I see that if the boot is open this just stops the operation of the roof, and it continues when closed.

If the LED is flashing at a 3htz that means trunk not closed or open.
when fashing at 1k this means the roof is not locked.

What is the roll bar doing while all this is going on.

The LED flashes at 1k. The roof operation has not entirely finished. Keep pressing the roof button and you can hear some motor at the back behind the roll bar attempting to do something. And then it tries again and again. Since the original problem the windows now do not return up and I need to do this by pressing all four of the window switches.

Returning to my current problem with my windows permanently down, would it do any harm if I were to try to pull the windows up manually, ie by brute force?

Thanks for your support!

The Car is a 208

I will look for more info tonight, there are 40 pages of it.

Your windows will not go up as they do not know where the roof is.
could you try and put them up with the roof down,if the light is not flashhing when the roof is down, the windows must go up, and no way can you force them.
