Went to start the CLK and got an engine management light on the dash . Hauled my trusty icarsoft MB2 from the other car and checked for codes .
P0020 was shown as current with a description of A Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit / Open Bank 2 .
Did a bit of reading and there are 2x Camshaft sensors and 2x Camshaft magnets on the M271 .
A bit more Reading and there was a hint that oil on the magnets could cause this fault code . I know about the magnets leaking on the M271 which is why I fitted the wire blockers a couple of years ago . Good thing to !
I checked one of the magnet electrical connections and low and behold it was full of oil , so I’ve ordered 2 new (MB) magnets , o rings and grommets . Hopefully their arrival will be delayed until warmer weather .
So again , thank you icarsoft :)

I might take some pics when I replace them

Temperature permitting, just clean the oil off the inside of the electrical connectors, both ends plug and socket. Clear the code and the EML. Then test to see if it comes back.
Was there any code for Bank 1.

No only bank 2 buddy , I’m replacing them for new , when the world returns to normal I’ll be back driving round France so I need a long term fix .

Looks like decent weather forecast for the weekend for outside tinkering , but I quickly checked the other cam magnet and that’s leaking as well , so double good thing that the blockers were fitted .
So word of warning to other M271 users that they need to check their Cars , especially as this one is a 2009 with 80k on it

Got the magnets replaced today with new O rings and Grommets (which don’t come with the magnets believe it or not ) .
I cleaned up the wire blockers because of the oil at one end of them using electrical contact cleaner
Maybe took 45 mins to do . Used the icarsoft to delete the fault code which extinguished the dash engine management light .
Ive done 2 runs so far totalling an hour and a half , with no issues and no new codes .
About £90 all in .

I found myself in the exact same situation the other week.

Your post was really helpful and informative so wanted to say thank you. I’m not very mechanical at all but managed to change the cam magnets.

I think my supercharger oil is very overdue, however from what I have seen on YouTube on how to change, it scares this novice off

I did a before and after picture

Cheers buddy , glad it helped .
I have done my supercharger oil twice on the CLK , it’s an ok job . There is some good info on YouTube as you have found .
As long as you don’t drop the torx bolt the hardest part is getting a tube correctly into the supercharger to suck the oil out .

I’ve got a friend helping me complete a gearbox oil & filter change this week, plus the electrical socket as I’m having gearbox trouble.

So will see how that goes to see if I’m going to be able to complete the supercharge. Unfortunately as wonderful as the CLK looks, it’s been a money pit, so trying some DIY to save some £££ Last year I genuinely sent my Mercedes specialist a Christmas card

DIY certainly makes both my cars affordable , I pretty much try anything on the car now . Do your research for how to do stuff , take your time , don’t start work on a Sunday because something will go wrong .

Wighty has only done a certain oil change twice. Regardless of the oil change.

As Viktor Meldrew would say - I dont believe it
