hrmph! they won't go forwards or backwards. Went to get something from the back, they moved forwards an inch or two and stopped. Driving is ok if slightly awkward.

Any suggestions?

When I had mine do this it was just a fuse (one in the boot right hand side IIRC)

There are several different fuses which is what threw me initially. Some for the back, some for the base etc.

Can be a nightmare to find, but mine did exactly the same as yours. Backrest forward, seat moved, backrest back, seat dead.

ah. the motor has been getting a tad whiney recently as it moved towards the steering wheel. is there a way of manually moving it until i can get a fuse?

Not as far as I could find.....why not try swapping it with another (same amperage) one from something like windows etc?

At least if it is that it'll get the seat back into a comfortable position for you :)

hehe good point. found a fuse. you were right, but it seems to have stuck in my position so I have basically got a seat that can flip back and forwards without sliding back and forwards... result :D

Take to dealers for new motor etc and wave goodbye to £500+ then sit and wait for your clock and temp gauge to go and pay the same, with a bit of luck your petrol gauge might not go, but if it does - you've guessed it - £500 +

CLK electric seats

Mine has done exactly the same thing (02 CLK with 56K).
Looked under the bonnet at the fuses & they are OK, so I will try those in the boot. My seat position is only just bearable, and because the seat jammed forwards, I brake far too hard.......no fun for passengers

The wiring chaffs through on the seat causing the fuse to blow. Have a look by taking the seak back off and inspecting the wires.

Not sure if my experience counts, but my driver's seat headrest was stuck in the top position, although the remaining controls were ok. I couldn't even shift it by leaning on it.

I took it to MB Newbury and they said they carried out a "system reset". End result, job done!

somthing has just occured to me. The seat motors may need normalizing and this can be done by a star at a dealer.

CLK Seats

Thanks guys looks like I save £500 by reading this. (Seat would not go forward or back could hear the relay) it turned out to be the 25amp fuse in the back

Cheers

same problem!

Hi guys

I have an 2002 clk 320 convertible. The passenger seat will not operate forward or back when you lift up the lever to gain access to the back seats. It does do it once in a blue moon but will only move 1 inch?
Every now and again when i try and move the seat back and forward too it stops? What the hell is up with it ? ive had a good look but cant see anything simple? help please!

CLK electric seats seem to be a nightmare. I've had probems in the past (2000 CLK) and originally suspected a flakey motor with a flat spot or something, but most people say they are bullet proof and rarely go?
I had the 25A fuse go a few times in the boot (I think its Fuse 8?), 2 or 3 back on the left row. What is the problem with trying a 30A (not more) ?

Lastly, its happened again and the fuses seem fine this time. All the other seat operations are working, but no forwards and back, and the seat is stuck too far forwards. Is there a way to hot-wire the motor so I can crank it back to a useable position???

Or I can try a reset - is there a way to do that without a STAR machine?

hi dringo, my colleague changed a fore/aft motor on a w203 seat base today, it worked intermittently. if you ring up MB parts department they can tell you how many have been sold in the uk, if you are tactful! but worth checking for power to the motor first, not too hard to get to if you can look underneath from the rear.

I was wondering about hotwiring the seat motor to at least get it moved back to a better position.
Last year MB told me it could be a seat motor with a 'flat spot' but that changing them is a hassle because of the AirBag things that need to be dis-armed befor the seat can come out before the motor can be 'replaced'. Seat has been fine mostly since then.

I'll try to check the voltage to the motor, if I can find my multi-meter.
