I have a 2006 CLK and to fold the front seat forward requires vigorous pulling backwards and forwards whilst pulling the latch handle before it will unlatch. It does this every time without exception and it always releases after about 5 pull/push cycles.... Extremely annoying.... Any suggestions?

The seat backrest will have to be removed to get to the release part

Thanks Television, but I'm not sure what you're saying... By backrest I assume you mean headrest, and if I remove it then what?

To get the seat base off the whole back must be removed.

Thats the only info given for the manual seat, unless you can raise the seat and see what is stopping the release mechanism from releasing the seat

If you look behind the seat, where the back meets the base, there should be a cable visible. I'm told that you need to take up the slack in the cable, it has stretched through use. Mine was done by MB during a service & that's what they told me anyway.

Thanks Malcolm and Russ... the seat is electrically adjustable but manually folding for rear egress... I will look for the cable and try and take out the slack.... Thanks for your help!

I am pleased that it is electric as that was the only version that I could find. this does confirm that the back part of the seat will have to be removed to get to the motor assembly

My '05 does this as well.

I have to lift the leaver and then push sharply down with the heel of my hand and then it releases the catch.

I took it all apart to see if I could see what was wrong but it all looked OK. I'm not sure if it is some sort of safety feature, but is is a PITA.
