Hi, I'm Kim.

I bought a CLk soft top 320 to renovate. it was a non runner. I traced the problem to the fuel pump. I put a new pump and filter on and it started. I drove it 2 yards on my drive and left it for a couple of weeks. It wouldn't start and I traced the fault to the brand new fuel pump that had started the car twice and driven 2 yards, it was not a fuse or relay,. The item was replaced, I fitted it and the car started. I drove it back and for on the drive again and parked it up. 2 weeks later it is again a non starter and again it is the fuel pump. not a relay, not a fuse not any wiring the pump itself as proved by wiring it directly to the battery. Has anyone any idea what could be causing this?

El cheapo! even so it works at first. I stripped down the first replacement but couldn't see a fault. Today I re-assembled it and it worked so it seems that the pump doesn't like getting wet, ( the fuel runs through it).

Just check that the pump is sending the fuel in the right direction.
Also, does the fuel filter have a directional arrow..?? Is it facing the right way..?

Thanks for your suggestions but the fuel pump worked once it isn't now, everything else is good. I do have over 30 years experience in the garage trade, just never come across this fault before. I did read a post somewhere that someone in the USA had the same fault with a Chrysler, 3 new fuel pumps until it worked, strange eh?
