Hi all,
After nearly 25 years of driving and having owned many brands, Ive recently developed a liking to the w209 clk mercedes (which would be my first merc).
So ive started to look around... considering 2002 to 2005 3.2 petrol coupe.

Ive one in mind, just waiting to arrange a convienent time to view, as its a few hours away.

Any idea's or suggestions would be welcomed.

Welcome and just be warned that owning a Mercedes can become addictive! Can you post a link to the advert so that the more knowledgeable members of the forum can have a look and make some specific comments.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Its a nice looking car but do be mindful that it failed its MOT back in June. The list of advisories is fairly lengthy though nothing insurmountable or over expensive :-

Repair immediately (major defects):
  • Offside Front Seat belt retracting mechanism defective (7.1.2 (e))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Offside Front Seat belt slightly damaged (7.1.2 (b) (i))
  • Nearside Non obligatory mirror damaged ()
  • Service brake fluctuating, but not excessively both front (1.2.1 (e))
  • Brake hose slightly deteriorated both rear (1.1.12 (b) (ii))
  • Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material both front to rear at rear (1.1.11 (c))
  • Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material both front (1.1.11 (c))
  • Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  • Anti-roll bar pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement both front (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  • Anti-roll bar pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement both rear (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  • Offside Front Nail in tyre ()
Good luck :)

Thanks for your reply, the seatbelt and mirror are in the process of being replaced then retested.

That's good news, the rest can be done as and when :) When all is said and done that is a lot of MB for the money !! :)

Mileage seems very reasonable for a car of that age. But, 10 previous owners and eight MOT fails over the years suggests the car may not have been loved that much. I suppose it’s worth a bit of a punt at that price if you have a budget to cover known and hidden repair costs. Brought up to standard, it could be a lovely car.

Exactly, hopefully it will live up to expectations. Is there anything obvious I should look out for ?

Welcome I had a 2006 CLK270CDI, same colour & interior. I did 115K miles in mine a great car very reliable.
Only issues one shock absorber, & front suspension bushes.
10 owners & 8 MOT failures is worrying, but for the price its worth considering.
