I know this has probably been covered in other threads but I hunted and couldn't find anything close. I have a silver clk320, 2001 and the rust gremlin is attacking the inside of the rear arches and a spot just above the sill trim. Firstly is the rubber seal that goes between the plastic sill trim and the body work something that is reusable or is it just pulled off and a new one bought and how does the sill plastic trim come away so that I can get access to the rust spot and hopefully deal with it. Lastly where is the paint code for the car found or is Mercedes silver a standard colour across the range?

With a silver Mercedes that will 044 for that year,,, please look in the DIY section for the "rear wheel arch mod" by me, you can use the hammerite silver and it blends in perfectly so that you would never see it.

I am unclear on the rust spot on the sill, any chance of a photo

Pics of D/S inner arch rust spots, and the rather large one on the sill.

OK the arches you can make like new without it being seen as in my DIY.

I will look up the removing of that strip later in the day, you will be able to reuse it

Just read your DIY tip and it's very good. Will get some hammerite this afternoon and have a go at it over the weekend. I'm trying to sell the car and if youd heard the fuss the guy made about the inner wings it was ridiculous, "Oh that'll be through to the metal in weeks and the whole qtr will need spraying" what a pratt. As for the sill that may be a bit more difficult. After all it is a 12yr old car with 90k on it.

The problem is trying to blend a patch in the middle of a panel, , you could just hammerite it it as you cannot blend in any case.

I used the hammered, but for that patch you need the smooth, the weather is very cold for painting and a heat lamp or warm air gun would help a lot in speeding up the drying process

I use Hammerite silver smooth. It's an excellent colour match but as you are brushing it on its not going to blend in perfectly. I remove all rust and as much black as possible with wet and dry. Then two coats of Hammerite without primer layer. Good luck.

Unfortunately the "Pratt" was probably right, removal of that sill cover might be a shock for you, the white clips do break they get brittle but MB will get them pretty quick.

They have new coloured clips now that are better

Been out all day so heres the vin WDB2083652F187642. Got a tin of hammerite so will be following your DIY tips next week, they are only blemishes so shouldn't be too much of a problem its the sill thats going to be a bit of a challenge, I'd rather see an average patch than bubbles of rust.

Thanks again for that, lucky we checked. Do you think 3 grand is reasonable for this car with 92,000 and 1 prev owner?
