Hi all

I have to replace the drag links on a CLK, the tie rods and drag links come as a complete assembly, Ive had a look at the way its fitted already but I cant see theres enough clearance to move the assembly up to clear the balls joints on the drag links.
Anyone had to do this job before and found a sensible way of doing it? Ive looked on WIS and from what I can see it looks like the engine has to be removed:shock:

Sam

Its the item with 4 ball joints attached, it connects to the steering box and both front wheels.

Hi Jib,

Once you have undone the nuts and broken the joints it will remove to one side, with a little jiggling.

Undo the idler bush ball joint nut by turning the steering slightly so you can get to it with a long extension bar from the top.

Over than that you should be ok.

The joints are free at the wheels, the joints under the gearbox are free but there doesnt seem to be enough clearence below the g/box for the ball joints to become free.

Yeah you could be right mate, I am thinking of 202,s and assuming the 208, would be very similar. I cannot specifically remember a 208 so could well be.

Yes, if i remember correct we had to, as Ellsy above, its one of those jobs you do and forget it, but im sure it was a 208 320, we took the bolt out and jacked up the off/side, it was still a pig even then!!

I dont understand why they make it so difficult, customer was quoted £550 inc part part alone was £202.

Because the cars put together in a certain way, its not spost to need bits replacing!!! before they fitted the engine and box that was already installed!!
